Planning For The Future

In 2011 and 2012, The City of BN participated in a program funded by the East West Gateway Council of Governments called Regional Plan for Sustainable Communities (RPSC). The Village of Riverview, Glasgow Village and Spanish Lake also participated in this study.

In June of 2013, the City of BN was given the opportunity to participate in an advanced study, the OneStl Pilot Study. The pilot study included identifying the issues and solving those issues.

City of BN is currently facing issues including: increasing commercial development, particularly retail stores and restaurants; strengthening existing neighborhoods; enhancing the diversity of housing and community amenities; enforcing and resolving code violations; and successfully marketing the City of BN to developers, businesses, and residents.

Recommended actions included:

• Updating the city’s Comprehensive plan to attract development
• Develop a regional retail strategy
• Develop economic activity along Highways 367 and 270
• Make efforts to update zoning
• Encourage strong neighborhoods and quality housing
• Update housing standards
• Manage rental properties to ensure upkeep
• Increase safety and lighting to ensure walkable and bikeable sreets and establish a complete street strategy
• Enhance the image of The City of BN and North County
• Establish the cooperation of surrounding communities.

The city of BN will be reviewing the recommendations made by EWGCG and researching our options to accomplish the goals that have been set. A copy of the OneStl Pilot Study is available.
