The Community Action Agency of St Louis County, Inc. (www.CAASTLC.org) is part of a national network of federally funded Community Action Agencies (CAAs), created by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. CAAs administer various programs on community levels to assist low-income people out of poverty conditions. Their Weatherization program helps to reduce energy costs for income eligible families by improving the energy efficiency of their homes. They use advanced technologies, certified auditors and qualified contractors to help reduce energy loads and save money at no cost to you.
Residential Energy Credits can be taken when qualified energy efficient improvements or expenditures are made for your principle residence, including new insulation, replacement windows, skylights, doors, qualified air conditioners, certain water heaters, furnaces or boilers and a new metal or asphalt roof specially treated to reduce heat loss. The credit is extended for eligible property placed in service before January 1, 2014. In order to qualify there must be a reasonable expectation that the qualified energy efficient improvements will remain in use for at least five years. The credit is equal to 10% of the cost of the qualified energy efficient property or improvements.
