Police Officer Job Opportunities

Are you interested in a fulfilling career as a police officer with the City of Bellefontaine Neighbors?

We accept applications for police employment regardless of vacancies.

Please review the below eligibility requirements and expectations of our employment process.

In compliance with police department policy, for an individual to be considered for employment, interested persons must make written application, to include a cover letter and résumé, and meet the following basic qualifications:

  • Citizen of the United States at the time of application;
     
  • No felony record or serious misdemeanor record of convictions;
     
  • Must be 21 years of age or have reached their 21st birthday at the time of appointment;
     
  • Proof of successful completion of basic police training from any P.O.S.T approved training facility or successful completion of qualified POST approved equivalent testing;
     
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.) equivalent;
     
  • Must possess a valid driver's license from any state of residency at time of application and possess a valid driver's license from any state of residency at the time of appointment;
     
  • Must have had an honorable discharge from military, if applicable;
  • May have not participated in a Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department hiring process within the past six (6) months.

After the written screening application has been received, candidates must successfully complete each stage of the competitive screening and employment process. The expectations are as follows:

  • Police and community oral panel interviews;
     
  • Background investigation;
     
  • Chief of Police and Mayor interviews;
  • Psychological testing; 
     
  • Medical examination and drug screening;
  • Firearms proficiency assessments;
     
  • Twelve (12) month probationary period from date of appointment.
