Area Organizations and Helpful Information

The following is a list of area organizations that may be helpful to you or your business.


AREA NEWS AND COMMUNICATIONS

  • The COMMUNITY NEWS (www.mycnews.com) is a publication that covers what is going on in North County. The first magazine on the left is the publication that focuses on North County.
  • Neighborhood Watch meets the 1st Wednesday of the month at City Hall.
  • The Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department has a Neighborhood Site for all residents, where they can receive information on safety tips, neighborhood watch meetings and events. Nextdoor is the private social network for you, your neighbors and your community. Residents can sign up for free at http://nextdoor.com. Once you sign up you and your neighbors will be able to share crime/safety concerns. This is 100% backed by the City and the Police Department. If you have any questions, please call 867-0080.

ENERGY PROGRAMS

  • 2011 - St. Louis County SAVES is a Residential Energy Efficiency LOAN Program in which low interest loans are available to St. Louis County Homeowners for upgrades that improve comfort and reduce energy costs in their homes. Please see attached flyer for more information.

  • The Community Action Agency of St Louis County, Inc. (www.CAASTLC.org) is part of a national network of federally funded Community Action Agencies (CAAs), created by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. CAAs administer various programs on community levels to assist low-income people out of poverty conditions. Their Weatherization program helps to reduce energy costs for income eligible families by improving the energy efficiency of their homes. They use advanced technologies, certified auditors and qualified contractors to help reduce energy loads and save money at no cost to you.

  • Residential Energy Credits can be taken when qualified energy efficient improvements or expenditures are made for your principle residence, including new insulation, replacement windows, skylights, doors, qualified air conditioners, certain water heaters, furnaces or boilers and a new metal or asphalt roof specially treated to reduce heat loss. The credit is extended for eligible property placed in service before January 1, 2014. In order to qualify there must be a reasonable expectation that the qualified energy efficient improvements will remain in use for at least five years. The credit is equal to 10% of the cost of the qualified energy efficient property or improvements.

  • The Residential Energy Efficient Property (REEP) credit has been extended through 2016. The REEP credit involves expenditures for solar electric property, solar water heating property, fuel cell power plants, small wind energy property and geothermal heat pump property. The credit is equal to 30% of the cost.

HEALTH INFORMATION

  • The Missouri Foundation for Health (314-345-5500) is a foundation dedicated to improving the health of the uninsured and under-served of the area.


SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION

  • Contacting the Social Security Administration. The local office is located at 11753 West Florissant Avenue. A list of other offices in the St. Louis metropolitan area is attached. Social Security may also be contacted at 1-800-722-1213 ((available 7am to 7pm, Monday through Friday) or www.socialsecurity.gov.

UNITED WAY INFORMATION

  • Dial 2-1-1 to get connected to a United Way trained resource specialist. This number is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Help can include information regarding food pantries, shelters, utility assistance, mortgage assistance, physical and mental health resources, job programs, support for seniors and disabled and support for children, youth and families.

RESOURCES FOR ANIMAL PROBLEMS

  • Problems with a neighborhood animal: Call 889-2341 and ask both the Bellefontaine Neighbors police and St. Louis County Animal Control (831-6500) to be dispatched.
  •  STL County Animal control can be found here: https://stlouiscountymo.gov/st-louis-county-departments/public-health/animal-care-control/. You can leave requests on investigating abuse or neglect, get information on spaying and neutering, and much more.
  • Wildlife issues:The Missouri Wildlife Rescue Center is a non-profit Missouri organization that hospitalizes and rehabilitates native Missouri wildlife. 636-394-1880

LEAD POISONING PREVENTION 

  • The National Lead Poisoning Prevention web site is located at http://www2.epa.gov/lead/lead-poisoning-prevention-week-2014. 
  • The EPA's Lead Home Page is at http://www2.epa.gov/lead.  This web site provides links to important information regarding lead and other environmental issues.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY LEAD-BASED HAZARD CONTROL PROGRAM

  • St. Louis County's Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Program offers NO-COST home improvements to help keep your children safe.
  • These improvements may include window and door replacement, exterior trim enclosure, and interior & exterior painting.
  • In order to qualify you must meet the following criteria:
         - You own a home built before 1978
         - You are current on your property taxes
         - You have a child under the age of six living in the house or you have a child under the age of six who frequently visits the house.
         - You have an adjusted household income that meets HUD guidelines
